Nine Workers Died in Construction Site

In Balewadi, Pune, India, nine workers were killed and two more resulted injured in a 13th floor under-construction residential when a cement slab caved in.

Police said: 8 workers died on the spot, while 9 died during treatment and two others suffered minor injuries and were transported to the city’s Sassoon Hospital.

The police also said that the contractors and the project owners are under investigation to verify who was responsible for the tragedy, since workers were not wearing safety harnesses while they were working in a 13th floor.

Kunal Kumar a Pune Municipal Commissioner (PMC) said; the accident was the result of an “illicit construction” because the builders had infringed construction norms since the building only had permission to make 12 levels.

PMC launched an investigation into illegal structures that have increased in recent years in the city’s suburbs.
