Two people were hospitalized Monday night following a serious collision on NY Thruway in the city of Greenburgh, Westchester County, according to the New York State Police.

Collision on NY Thruway: What Happened

According to the NY Troopers Newsroom, the crash occurred around 8:50 p.m. on December 15, 2025, along the northbound lanes of Interstate 87 near Exit 7A.

Authorities say a 2020 Volvo tractor-trailer, driven by 34-year-old Jenssy J. Sanchez Vizcaino of Dunellen, New Jersey, was traveling north when it struck the rear of a 2006 Audi A driven by 66-year-old James Aggrey of Ossining, New York.

According to police, Vizcaino attempted to brake but was unable to stop in time. The impact caused major damage to both vehicles and led to significant traffic delays as first responders and investigators closed lanes on the Thruway.

Both drivers were transported to Westchester Medical Center. Vizcaino’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening, while Aggrey sustained life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.

Crash Investigation and Response

Members of the Troop T Uniformed Officers, the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU), and the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) responded to the scene to examine the cause and sequence of the collision.

The New York State Thruway Authority reported temporary closures near Exit 7A while investigators worked through the night to clear debris and document evidence.

Context: Truck Collisions on U.S. Highways

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) publication, large trucks were involved in nearly 5,936 fatalities nationwide in 2022, the the highest number in over a decade. Roughly one in three of these crashes occurred on major interstates such as the NY Thruway.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) also reports that of the approximately 503,000 police-reported crashes involving large trucks in 2022, 114,000 (23 percent) were injury crashes.

2025 crash data show more than 77,000 collisions across New York State, including thousands involving large trucks on the NY Thruway, according to NHTSA and NYC Open Data.

State Data

In New York, traffic officials continue to emphasize caution when driving near commercial vehicles. As of November 2025, the NYC Open Data Motor Vehicle Collisions Portal recorded more than 77,000 crashes statewide, resulting in over 45,000 injuries.

Rear-end impacts, unsafe speed, and following too closely remain among the leading contributing factors on highways.

Motorists are also encouraged to remain visible, avoid blind spots, and reduce speed during wet or low-visibility conditions, especially on long highway stretches like the NY Thruway.
