William Schwitzer & Associates, P.C. is proud to celebrate the vibrant tradition of the West Indian American Day Parade, which lit up Brooklyn’s Eastern Parkway this Labor Day. Organized by the West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA), this year’s parade brought together over a million spectators to honor the rich cultural heritage of the Caribbean—a celebration we wholeheartedly support.
A Dazzling Display of Culture
The 2025 parade embraced the theme “Vive Le Carnivale,” transforming Crown Heights into a spectacular showcase of music, dance, and artistry. From the early-morning J’Ouvert festivities to the colorful afternoon procession, masqueraders wore intricate, feathered costumes while steelbands and DJs filled the air with calypso, reggae, and soca rhythms. Caribbean flavors—jerk chicken, roti, and curries—tempted taste buds along Eastern Parkway, creating a true feast for all the senses.
A Proud History
The West Indian Day Parade has deep roots dating back to the 1920s, when Caribbean immigrants first began hosting private Carnival parties in Harlem to celebrate their homeland traditions. By the late 1960s, the event had grown so popular that it moved to Brooklyn, where Eastern Parkway became its permanent home. Over the decades, it has evolved into one of New York City’s largest cultural celebrations, highlighting the traditions of Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, Haiti, Grenada, and many other Caribbean nations.
Honoring Heritage & Community
More than just a festival, the West Indian Day Parade is a living tribute to the resilience, creativity, and unity of the Caribbean community. Flags from across the islands waved proudly as participants and spectators of all backgrounds danced and celebrated together.
At William Schwitzer & Associates, P.C., we believe in supporting the cultural events that make New York City so unique. We salute the organizers, performers, and attendees who keep this cherished tradition alive year after year. Here’s to many more decades of music, color, and community spirit on Eastern Parkway!
