Woman Dies After Being Crushed at Construction Site

Columbia, South Carolina – A construction worker was crushed to death while working at a site in the 4500 block of Broad River Road.

The victim was Diane M. Smith, 49, of Lumberton, NC.

The accident happened on Tuesday, May 1st, when suddenly she was entrapped between the ceiling and the railing of the lift.

 

Jeff Taillon, Corrections Department spokesman, said Smith was working on a project for the South Carolina Department of Mental Health.

OSHA officials were notified of the incident and are investigating.
