New York, NY – A maintenance worker died after falling from down an elevator shaft in Superior, Wis.

The worker apparently used a key to open the elevator door and went through the open door, not realizing the elevator cart was above his before proceeding through the open door and fell about 15 to 20 feet to the basement.

Margie Regner, owner of the hotel said: “He was a great employee, very helpful to everyone… We have people who live at the hotel long-term, and he is always helpful to everyone. Always going above and beyond, working off-duty. He would help anybody at any time. We are going to miss him a lot. He was a great employee and friend.

The 63 years victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead on scene.
