Construction Accident at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

Construction Accident at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

Phoenix, Arizona – A construction worker is missing and believed to be dead in an accident at a work site of the Sky Train guideway system.

The accident happened last Monday, May 21, about 9:30 a.m. when a giant drill rig fell on its side over a hole, burying the rig operator 30 feet deep under the dirt.

Phoenix Fire Department Captain Jake Van Hook said: “The size of the hole, the depth of the hole all play a factor and again we don’t know how much dirt is in the hole, we don’t know how much debris is in there at this point,

Firefighters have been working in shifts since Monday and airport operations are not impacted.

The worker’s name hasn’t been released.
