A South Haven Man is Dead After Construction Accident

Hobart, Indiana – A construction worker died while was working at a construction site at the Lakeshore Drive and Pennsylvania Avenue.

The accident happened last Wednesday November 1st, when the construction worker was operating the excavator to replace sewer lines in the area.

James Gonzales, Hobart Police Lt. said: “The operator of the excavator was inside the cab when he turned to speak with a crew member on the ground. When the operator turned back around to situate himself in his seat, a piece of clothing caught a lever, which controls the bucket on the excavator. The bucket, which was positioned inside of the hole, moved forward and pinned the worker against the wall”.

The 62 years old construction worker was pronounced dead at the scene and his identity has not been released.

The accident is being investigated by The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
